Ian Quitadamo was born was born on April 10, 1969 in Englewood, New Jersey. He began martial arts training in Danzanryu jui jutsu in 1986 and Kyokushin karate under Tommy Burris and then John Adams in 1990. He later joined IKO‐Matsushima with then Sensei Adams under Shihan Roman Szyrajew. He graded to nidan shortly after joining IKO‐Matsushima, and later for sandan (2002), yondan (2006), and godan (2012) under Kancho Matsushima.
Shihan Roman Szyrajew began his Karate training in the late 60’s with Roger Lesourd, the father of Kyokushin Karate in Canada. A 7th Dan black-belt, he has acquired a world-wide reputation as one of the foremost authorities in Karate and an eminent karate practitioner and teacher. He trained for many years with Shigeru Oyama, and trained personally with Mas Oyama in Japan on several occasions. Shihan Roman travels regularly to teach the Kyokushin Way. MORE
Masutatsu (Mas) Oyama was born Yong I-Choi on the 27th of July, 1923, in a village not far from Gunsan in Southern Korea. At a relatively young age he was sent to Manchuria, in Southern China, to live on his sister's farm. At the age of nine, he started studying the Southern Chinese form of Kempo called Eighteen hands from a Mr. Yi who was at the time working on the farm. Yoshikazu Matsushima was born April 23rd, 1947. Kancho Matsushima started training karate at the Ikebukuro dojo in Tokyo, Japan in 1965. He was a student of Oyama, Sosai. He has taught karate around the world, has appeared in magazines, television shows and movies promoting the Kyokushinkai. Matsushima, Kancho was selected to appear in Sosai's book "Advanced Karate". In 1989 he was awarded a special presentation by Sosai for promoting Kyokushin Karate!
